Default Thinking of buying a green scythe

Disclaimer: I do not like how scythes look. Too Iron Maiden for my tastes. So I like scythes that look a little like they are not scythes. I like
ornate, http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Ornate_Scythe
anchient, http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Ancient_Scythe
embosed scythes. http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Embossed_Scythe

I farmed Bubahl's Grasp...http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Bubahl%27s_Grasp
great for Ebon Dust builds and looks cool.

I salvaged a Zelous mod from a non-max gold the first day I played NF and put it on an ornate scythe...I use this for farming and it looks sweet.

I have Claw of the Forgoten...http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Claw_of_the_Forgotten
which I don't like that much but is still not an Iron Maiden reaper.

Here is the question... I'm interested in Mhedi's Vow http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Mhedi%27s_Vow

The picture looks cool. It does not have +15% but I think +5 energy can definitly come in handy. I could reproduce this with a perfect inscribably embosed scythe, a fortitude mod (I have a +25hp) and my zealous. But I need my zealous mod for my farming build (where in, I cannot have +hitpoints on my weapon). I cannot farm Mhedi with my Derv or really anything I know off...to many enchant stripping corsairs around him.

Here is the question(s): I put out a WTB today and met someone who was selling for 25K. He would not negotiate on the price. That's a lot of money for me. Is this weapon worth it?

Its worth as much as you are willing to pay. If you want it then yes its worth it. Do you need it? No you can get the same mods for much cheaper so your buying it purely for looks.

A full Fortitude +30 scythe mod retails for around 20K if you're not a power-trader. 5K is a pretty reasonable premium to pay for a Zealous mod, a max inscribable req 9 Embossed Scythe, and a +5 Energy mod.

...So yeah, if it's what you want from a scythe then go for it. You're not being ripped off, if that's your question.

I was lucky enough to get Mehdi's Vow as a drop while skill capping. The +5 energy does help along with the zealous mod, so it is a nice scythe to use. I didn't even bother trying to sell it, since I liked it so much I customized it right away, so I wouldn't be able to help you out price wise. I'm guessing 20-30k would be reasonable, given the current prices of the mods.

Can you not bring the hench/heroes along, clear everyone else out and flag them away where they are greyed out? It is usually what I do if I want to farm a green.

Go ranger, take 2 ranger heroes and lay a pile of traps. Then send your heroes off and pull him to the traps.

Here is my tactics -

1. Take the minion master hero and full group or less if you can do it. And destroy everything but the boss you want. Send your team out of radar and pursue your target. Minions do not leave if they are attacking something Makes life a little easier. You do have to worry about the minions killing your target.

2. Let all your hench team and heros whack on the boss and then flag them away after he hits ¼ or ½ health then run away and flag them off radar. Return and finish the job as the boss will self heal to about ½ - ¾ health. Note this will not work with healer bosses.

If I can not solo the boss after the henchies take a hike, I re-flag a hero and two man farm them. I know I've needed the mesmer hero (norgu) to help with some monk bosses and occasionally a monk to help with something that does too much damage.

It is much safer than hoping the minions do not kill them or the hench/hero decide to ignore your flag and finish that last 1/4 health off. Two man teams still have a good chance of the green dropping for you.

Um...as far as I know, if you take heros and henchies, you decrease your chance of getting the drop proportionally. So if I took a full party, I would be 7 times LESS likely to get the drop no matter who kills the boss. This has no relation to whether they are in radar range or not. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this, but I do not think I am. I do not think I am wrong...otherwise, why would there be solo farmers?

...Sorry; but you are, in fact, wrong. Flagging your henchies out to "grey" range is enough to keep them from getting drops.

Because most people haven't gotten the message yet! There is now virtually no reason ever to take more than two humans along on a boss-farming trip.

One-man farming still has a place, but that place is "killing non-boss monsters for regular loot", not Green farming.

...One final note: what makes Mhedi a pain to farm is how far he is from any zone portals! You have to trudge through most of Barbarous Shore every time you tackle him, so he's not a very time-to-profit-ratio efficient farm target.

I can assure you in equipping a set of heroes with greens the grayed out henchies to not get drops (as of pre-wintersday update - should be hours or less away from the time of this post). I've equipped more than one full set of heroes with greens that way.

If that will remain - do not know. Obviously if the Wintersday update changes it, then no go. Then again it may never change - unless they make a special case for hench/heroes it will break expected and needed behavior.

As to why solo? Well if you can solo the boss it is easier to do and you get all the drops in between. I prefer to solo for the drops and exp - it takes a similar amount of time to do both unless they are a long ways off or have a group of mobs that make it impossible. There are just quite a few bosses that need the henchies to do.
